Departmental Profile
The Department of Commerce, one of the oldest and premier department in the college, has completed 55 years of existence, proving its excellence in the field of Commerce and has been scaling heights ever since. The Department came into existence with the launching of B.Com degree course in 1964. Ever since its inception, the Department has maintained an exalted academic profile which is clearly reflected in the outstanding academic performance of the students. In recognition of its remarkable achievements, it had been elevated to a Post Graduate Department in 1979. The Department has a vibrant student life and numerous opportunities for its students. The Department has adopted a targeted skill oriented educational approach, where a student is trained in his/her naturally inclined field of interest and equipped with the skills set that would help in future. It aims to impart commerce education to develop professional skills among the students. The Department of Commerce, successfully conducts Autonomous Certificate Courses in Tally, Tax Advisor Computer Concepts and Soft Skills, for the undergraduate and post graduate students.
The Department is enriched by 09 faculties including 3 regular staff members and six on contractual basis. The Department offers B.Com, M.Com with specialisation in Advanced Accountancy and Business Administration, BBA (Computer Applications), one of the most demanded courses of the contemporary academic world. Highly professional in nature, the course intends to provide a foundation for students who plan to pursue their career in business, commerce, accounting etc. Our students undergo internship programmes after their fourth semester which makes them more adaptable with the industrial world. Industrial visits are also there for all the classes.
Every year the department organizes Commerce Festival in which activities like Business quiz, Business Plan, Skits, Paintings on social happenings, are organized to develop leadership & professional skills among students. The main objective of organising the commerce festival is to boost the confidence of the students & inculcate a high level of self-esteem among them. Other events like Teachers Day, Parent Teacher Meet, Departmental Alumni Meet, Welcome functions, Farewell Programmes, Celebration of various days of importance are regularly organised by the department.
The department of Commerce has been consistent in organizing and BCUD and College Sponsored National and International Seminars and Conferences. The department encourage students to participate in events organized by other colleges and also get involved in activities of social relevance. They are enabled to think creatively and to develop right mind set to meet the challenges of the globalised business environment, through value based education, interpersonal relations and outreach programmes. With all these inputs one finds our students hardworking, practical-oriented and effective in any work environment. The curriculum is taught by a distinguished faculty combining academic excellence and real world experience with dedication and commitment.
The Department has a well-stocked library and Computer Lab for its exclusive use. It envisages and implements innumerable programmes to enhance the employability and to strengthen the personality of the graduate and Post-Graduate students.
